The deposed premier’s lawyer Dr Babar Awan reached the IHC to file the petition while an application seeking cancellation of the arrest warrant has also reportedly been prepared.

In the latest twist of events surrounding the threatening speech against a woman judge, a magistrate in Islamabad had issued a warrant of arrest on Saturday against Imran Khan.

The case against the former prime minister was registered on August 20 with the Margala Police Station in the federal capital over his remarks at a rally in F9 Park where he had warned Additional District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry and police high-ups of dire consequence, as well as the judiciary for what he had called its “biased” attitude towards his party.

On Friday, the PTI chairman had visited the sessions court of Islamabad in order to tender an apology to the additional district and sessions judge, but finding her on leave, he asked her reader to convey his apology to her.

As the IHC opened today a bench under Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani was constituted to hear the petition challenging the arrest warrant.

Subsequently, a chamber hearing commenced on Imran’s request and the court granted interim bail against Rs10,000. It also ordered the ex-PM to appear in local court before October 7.
